Danyl might be the first person to ever win an argument with Simon Cowell

When we brought you the news yesterday that Danyl Johnson was threatening to quit X Factor after his song choice strop, we feared the worst – while Danyl might be a strong character (that’s secret code for awkward twat who happens to be good looking), so is Simon Cowell, so we just weren’t sure who’d win this one.

Well, guess what? Danyl is victorious! He’s successfully persuaded Simon to let him ditch Praying For Time in favour of a much more memorable George Michael song, Careless Whisper.

"This week it was always going to be one of those two George Michael songs and it turns out Danyl had set his heart on the other one, which we'd already practised a few weeks ago,” Simon Cowell explains, deftly avoiding the fact that he lost a fight to someone younger and hotter than him. “The pressure and frustration got to him and he boiled over but when he came in to see me and we talked it through he was as good as gold. I'd always thought he would get to sing both the songs on the show so it's a storm in a teacup.”

Good as gold? Mmm, nice and patronising, Simon. That’s more like it.
