There's a reason why Robbie and his girlfriend/fiancee/possibly-soon-to-be-ex look so confused

So, in the early hours of this morning we broke the news that Robbie Williams had proposed to girlfriend Ayda Field live on an Australian radio show - and she said yes.

And then we told you that Robbie's spokesman had said the whole thing was just an elaborate joke.

And now?

Well, if it is just a big joke, someone should let Robbie's mum know - as she's a believer, and says she's super-excited about the wedding. The possibly fictional wedding.

"He wanted to do something different," said Jan Williams on Five Live earlier today, apparently while shopping for an engagement card. "She's a lovely girl and I'm really pleased for them. I've got a daughter-in-law. I'm very excited, I'm really pleased. They've been together for nearly three years so it's about time."

Predicted developments:

3.02pm: Jonathan Wilkes says the whole thing was just a sketch for his new reality show on Channel 4962.

4.19pm: Mark Owen is photographed flying to Australia wearing a tux and clutching a card bearing the message "CONGRATULATIONS ROBBIE & AYDA ON YOUR ENGAGEMENT WHICH IS DEFINITELY HAPPENING AND THE WEDDING IS TOMORROW AND I AM ON MY WAY TO IT RIGHT NOW AND I HOPE THERE IS A VEGETARIAN OPTION LOTS OF LOVE FROM LICKLE MARK OWEN XOXO".

4.21pm: Robbie issues an official denial.

4.23pm: Robbie issues an official statement saying that the denial was a joke.

4.25pm: Ayda issues an official statement saying that Robbie is a joke.

4.27pm: We realise we don't care anymore, and none of this is going to make us buy his album anyway (we've already been sent a free copy. It's quite good).
